With just days before the 28 Feburary cut-off, I am urging young athletes and teams in Kingsford Smith to apply for funding support to help them realise their sporting dreams and compete in a championship before it's too late.
Introduced by the former Federal Labor Government in 2008, the Local Sporting Champions Program seeks to assist junior sports stars meet the cost of participation at eligible sporting competitions.
Participating in sport at a young age can provide tremendous social and health benefits that can last a lifetime.
Local junior athletes can apply for grants of $500 and $3000 for teams to cover the cost of travel, accommodation, uniforms or equipment associated with participating in an eligible championship.
Individual athletes and teams who are participating in appropriately endorsed state school sport championships or international competitions are also eligible to apply for support.
It's important to nurture our community's young athletes so they can achieve success and benefit from participation in their sporting endeavours.
I encourage parents, coaches and junior athletes to apply for a Local Sporting Champions grant to help them meet the cost of their involvement in a sporting championship.
Applications close on 28 February.
