There is little doubt we are blessed by the environment in which we live. The glistening coast line and close proximity to Sydney city are the geographic factors that define Kingsford Smith. But it is the people that really make the southeast such a wonderful place to live.
I have always maintained volunteers are the backbone of any community. Giving up hours of their time for community causes, they reach out to the less fortunate and make Kingsford Smith a better place to live, work and raise a family.
Recently I had the honour of visiting legendary volunteer Vi Robbins to wish her a Happy 112th Birthday. A helper at the Prince of Wales Hospital until the age of 110, Vi personifies the community spirit that makes our area so special.
I am pleased to announce that in honour of Vi I have established the annual Kingsford Smith Vi Robbins Volunteer Award. The Vi Robins Volunteer Award will be bestowed upon our community’s most outstanding volunteer who like Vi has acted selflessly and generously in their service to our community.
I am constantly amazed by the work being done by our local residents and I look forward to seeing how the next generation of volunteers continue to inspire and lead the way through their unselfish acts and charitable gestures.
