Yesterday’s news of the loss of 5000 Qantas jobs has sent a shockwave through the entire country and Kingsford Smith.
As the son of a former Qantas worker of 37 years I understand the pride that comes with working for one of this country’s most iconic companies.
But while pride in one’s work is a wonderful thing it can make the news of imminent job losses that much more soul crushing.
So to those 5000 workers, many of whom work and reside in my electorate, I offer them my sincerest sympathies.
I also offer them the commitment that Labor will fight to ensure Qantas has a future in this country and that Qantas remains our national carrier.
